I have owned a 1987 28' express with twin Chrysler 318's since 2003. The valve cover gaskets are dripping oil and need to be replaced. However it appears the exhaust manifolds must be removed prior to removing the valve covers. The boat has the newer center-dump manifolds. I am not sure how difficult it will be to remove the exhaust manifolds or if there are other issues I should be aware of before I start this project. I would appreciate any advice, comments or recommendations on this project. This is my first post but this forum has been my first stop for Marinette answers since 2003. I really appreciate the information I have received and I hope I can contribute in the future. Thanks you. Curt Marblehead, Ohio

You do not have to pull the manifold to change the valve cover gaskets with log type manifolds. It is a tight fit. With center riser manfolds may be a different story. I'll replace your valve cover gaskets if I can trade you manifolds.... Robert "The is no dumb-ass vaccine" - Jimmy Buffet

Use a tight ftting (so it doesn't fall off) 1/4 " drive socket set with a 7/16 short socket on the end. And be sure to turn the valve cover over and knock back the indentations at each hole with the round ernd of a ball peen hammer--that's what that's for. Thanks for the information Jeff and I think I will pass on RiverRatts offer. Any extra horsepower is needed with the current gas prices. Any idea if the valve covers can be removed without first moving the center dump manifolds? It looks like the manifolds will need to be moved first based on the height of the manifolds. I anticipate that will add a few hours to the project. Thanks again. Curt Marblehead, Ohio
