Brazilian Teak is also known as "Cumaru". It's one of a number of South American hardwoods that are being marketed as high-end decking materials. I bought some Ipe to build my swim platform. It is very dense and heavy and has beautiful natural grain and color. There was a better selection of milled sizes for the Ipe where I bought my wood.

I'm interested to see how it holds up. It looks like it should work great!

I just checked out the WorkBench site, coincidently I have been looking for lumber for a raised plant bed and as a border for landscaping around some trees. I want to go with that deep rich red wood look but living in Florida the conditions are harsh. I was presuming that since the lower section of the wood will be in the ground it has to be treated and weather proofed. I could go with a composite plastic wood (CPW) but I wonder if it would still have that nice red wood look or would composite wear out and look bad after a while?
On the boat topic, I am seriously considering cork as a deck choice for the stern area of my 34' Marinette houseboat. The only thing is it appears as though the consensus is that it should be installed/layed down by a professional which spikes the overall cost up significantly. My plan was to just go ahead and try a separate project myself (on a junk boat) and see how it turns out.
Send pics of the Brazilian wood project when done.
