Mr starboard is making milkee oil manifolds are of 73. Engine is stock from 73 haven't checked plugs yet but last years plugs were black from carbon. And I had this trouble last year. Hoped it was condensation but I think not. Head gasket. Or manifold? If head gasket, engine is tired. So will be changing over winter and changing oil after every week of running what do the motor heads think. Try new manifolds first or what

Brent, Smells like my starboard last fall. Ran the old girl real hard and kept getting water in the oil.Should have pulled her right then but could have .. maybe saved the engine. Had Tim George break her down in march at the dock. Crack heads a couple valves and scorched cam . Was not interested in spending $ and finding more problems with the block. Tim had her pulled and taken to the shop, new power and checked port real good. I wouldn't wait too long !!

38 years on a set of cast iron manifolds is pretty good.
A leak down test (not a compression test) should help determine the problem.
Also, if you crank the engine with the spark plugs removed it will spit water from
any cylinders that are wet.

Up date not making oil just turning oil white. Was told by another. Motor head to fill with diesel pull plugs roll her over a few times with just diesel. Change repeat then do my comp/ leak down test change with oil change manifolds what do you think crazy. 10$in diesel vs 48in oil

IMO no amount of smoke and mirrors will correct this problem.

9 out of 10 times milky oil = blown head gasket (s) or more often crack in block, heads, manifold etc.

Looks like a major overhaul is due on Mr. Starboard.

Fastjeff can tell the tale better than anyone on this site.

Reality sometimes sucks!

Reality update seems small leaky head gasket got worse. #3cyl pumping h2o out plug hole. Hoping not cracked head do they sell head gasket kit intake exhaust. N head both sides n how much? Seems easy drain water pull out oil pull intake v cover remove exhaust npull head noteing valve positions right?

First drain the manifold then pull the manifold to see if it's the problem before removing the intake, rocker arm, pushrods and head. Label the pushrods and put them back in the same holes.
Spray some PB Blaster on the bolts and studs the day before you start. Plan on replacing all of the exhaust studs and bolts. The old ones will probably be rusted to the point that you can't torque them down. Jeff had a great tip: use 2 studs on the head itself to "hang" the exhaust gaskets and manifold when you re-install it. It's very heavy.

Inspect your valve train cover underneath the intake manifold by using a vaccuum cleaner to suck up the debris that accumalates on the rear end. I found a rusted through hole there. It probably was caused by moisture that accumalates there in the debris and does not evaporate.

If you pulled the exhaust manifolds, you are a good way to pulling the heads anyway and having them rebuilt with new valves, seats, stellite faced for unleaded gas, and resurfacing the face of the heads at a shop like Jan Cens Race engines where I had my 440 heads rebuilt. A new head gasket may not solve the problem if the heads are warped.
