I thought the capac sensor on the bottom of the boat had been painted over. T'wasn't so, just a good amount of crud. Took a sponge and gently wiped clean with mild detergent. Surprise, there's a hole near the center of the sensor. Appears to be about 1/16" in diameter.
Questions -
1. This is not a good thing, I'm sure, but does it render the sensor unusable?
2. Can this be plugged with say, aquarium grade silicon without detrimental effect?
3. Is it worth plugging?

I could use comments as the boat is supposed to go in the water in the morning. I'll need to get to the marina early to apply the silicone and give it time to cure.

Know there may not be "dumb" questions on the site, but I'm guessing this qualifies for "odd". d'oh!

Bill,

Was the capac working before you discovered the hole?

If not, then a replacement may be in order anyway.

Bill:
According to the manual, the reference electrode consists of a silver-silver chloride screen.
I've examined mine and cannot see anything that looks like a screen. I suspect the screen is under the center disk.

Peter,

I called Ward Marine and checked with them. They pulled a new unit and it does not have a hole in the sensor area.

New unit is 430.00. ugh!
