The simplest fixes are often the best. Another example: One of our forum stalwarts reported an inoperative parallel switch. Several good approaches were offered but the one that did the trick was simply cleaning the cables. Our guy with the busted switch was urged to clean the connections and lo & behold, he discovered some corrosion near the connection point. Cleaned it and, shazzam, good as new switch.
