I just got my 28 ft express out of the water to service and get ready for a trip this fall. I got it tucked away in the barn and put an aluminum step latter up for boarding. When I stood on the later and touched the boat I got a tingle and when I used a meter I found 120 volts between the boat and the latter.

I hit the main bracker and I still had 120 volts. I cannot find any bad wiring yet.

If anyone has any advice I would appreicate it.

Did you open the main 110V breaker on the boat or the barn 110V main breaker?

Do you have an inverter on the boat that is kicking on when the main is open?

Check the hot water tank as mentioned.

You definitely have a leak somewhere.

Think Sounds like reverse polarity to me.Eh? The peoblem is with the building wiring not the boat. Blk should be hot 120 volt, white should be common [no volts] and green should be ground [no volts].Chech at were you plugged in the shore powerDancing

The water heater is not plugged in. I turned off the main bracker in the boat not the barn. I checked the polarity at the 15 amp plug in the barn and each plug in the boat.

I had bought a 15 amp to 30 amp adapter last winter because I do not have a 30 amp twist plug in the barn.

You need to check the power cord & adapter, it seems you have an open in the white netural wire & green ground, allowing the return to be throught the ladder & earth.

I think the problem is solved. I did away with the 30 amp to 15amp plug and went back to wiring the cord to the fuse box like I have done in past years. I had one volt to the ground, is this something to worry about? Anyway there is no shock so that is a good thing.

Thanks for your help.

The problem with those 30 to 15A adapters is pulling ~15A through them constantly.

1V to ground is perhaps not desirable but I don't think that will cause a big problem. I see very low voltage on the ground at my marina. God knows where its coming from. That wont produce the tingling sensation but the 120V between the boat and ladder will.

Glad its resolved.

Install gfic outlets.

If they trip you still have a fault.
