I needed to remove the doors to paint behind them. I couldn't loosen the adjusting screw and lift the door out. I went to a glass and lock business and got some professional advice. These doors sometimes use a block screwed into the top channel. The purpose of this is to prevent someone gaining entry by lifting the door out. This was not the case - there is no block but that is a good idea. The pro said I needed to soak and free up the adjuster and get the door out. Then I could check the roller wheel wear and replace them if necessary. He said he uses a steel putty knife to pry under the wheel to free the bottom. Three of the four adjusting screws are all the way in and frozen. I soaked them several times with PB blaster. I also used the straw on the sprayer to squirt some inside the roller mechanism. I haven't yet completely ruined the screw slot but it is an oddball size and I need to find a screw driver that fits better before I attack it again. The doors to not meet evenly and will not lock. Small deadbolts will hold them closed from the inside but if no one is in the cabin and you are towing or anchored out the doors have to be straped shut. The pro said the doors should be oiled and adjusted once a year. The door also need to have the welting replaced because it makes a loud clacking sound when closing.

To move the door away from the panel I wanted to paint I took off the teak trim along the top and the aluminum jambs. That solved my painting problem but the door is still there and still a mess. I can remove the track to get the door out. But the adjuster would still be frozen. I could try and impact driver and as a Marinette owner I have screw remover set. I would like to save the adjuster mechanism if I can. I guess removing the track is the way to go.

The pro said he can fix any door I can bring in. There may be a delay if he has to order parts. His house or boat calls are a minumum of $50 plus repair time and parts cost. That is starting to look like a bargain.

The sliding door has been fixed. We had to remove the track to get the door out. The mechanism is very simple. You have to unscrew the screw that holds on the bottom frame and remove it. you then can back the adjusting screw on each side completely out. Now you can pry the bottom of the lower frame out. This is the adjusting unit. The guide wheels are fixed. The whole unit is lifted or lowered as you operate the adjusting screw. It is easy to clean up.
