Changed out stbd eng impeller a few months ago....looked ok so I wasn't in a hurry to change port

because it is a nightmare to get to....stalled a little too long and didn't quite make it to winter

.
Port impeller disintegrated this past weekend.
Noticed muffler on the engine sounded louder the last couple of times out. Cranked engine and noticed a lot of steam/smoke coming from muffler. Engine climbed to 160* and climbing...shut it down. Pulled raw water pump. Pulled exhaust side water hose off salad/filter bowl, back flushed transmission cooler...pieces did come out even though the cooler is on the intake side of the pump.
Not sure if pieces went into the exhaust logs or not...I'm sure they did

...but I'm not pulling logs unless I find hot spots with my nifty infrared temp gun (thanks Jeff)
Moral of this story...if the engine gets throaty with a little steam coming out..check water flow and change impeller if you haven't in a few years.
Anyone have more advice?
