It's that time of the year for us northern folks. Time to winterize Silenced

Aside from running ethanol free (90 or 91 octane) fuel from my marina I wanted to include some stabilizer and ethanol treatment as I don't know how ethanol free the fuel really is.

Got 2, 8oz bottles of Stabil Marine formula (blue fluid) for my 75 gal saddle tanks. 8oz will do 80 gallons and adding more will not hurt anything. Figured I'll run a bottle through each tank now and another before I pull out.

I've also seen the Star brite fuel treatment but have never used it.

Anyone else know of any ethanol/stabilizer products they like?

-Karl

***Update**
I was just reading the FAQ for Stabil and came across this.
Looks like my final fill up will be with the red stuff, not the blue.

Q: Should I stop using STA-BIl Fuel Stabilizer and use the new STA-BIl Ethanol Treatment or Marine Formula STA-BIL instead?
A: There are specific needs for each product. As a general guideline, if you are STORING your gasoline vehicle or equipment for 30 days or more, we recommend you use Red STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer. For EVERYDAY PROTECTION against Ethanol blended fuels in your Marine gasoline engine, we recommended using Marine Formula STA-BIL at every fill up during the season. For protection in all other non-marine gasoline vehicles, use new STA-BIL Ethanol Treatment at every fill up. For Diesel vehicles and equipment, use Diesel Formula STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer.

So..one is a "treatment" and the other is a "stabilizer". Nice going, guys...confusion reigns again. I've used the red stuff successfully but frankly, it's never been clear to me that those additives (way overpriced) are always or ever helpful. But the literature (boat US and others) suggest that it (the red stablizier) works. However, they never have pointed to any actual tests or studies on effectiveness (treated vs untreated).

Having said that, may I slightly hijack your thread Karl by asking about stuck valve "treatment" recommendations?

You'll have bad times, but they'll just wake you up to the good times you weren't paying attention to

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know "why" I look this way.I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

for engine/intake cleaning I've used the following,

Seafoam, Chemtool B-12, Mystery Oil and Lucas fuel treatment.

http://www.seafoamsales.com/

http://berrymanproducts.com/

http://www.marvelmysteryoil.com/

http://www.lucasoil.com/products/

I used to suck Seafoam into the vacuum line in my old car. Let it site for 10 minutes then start up and drive down the road. Would smoke like heck.
Really cant tell which one is best if any but the Chemtool B-12 may be the cheapest.

I use Seafoam in my tractors during the mowing season and in my snow plow tractor during the winter. It keeps the carbon from building in the cylinders, along with varnish in the carb. Once I park my mowing tractor, I use Sta-bli red while it sits. I run the tank down then treat the tank and fill all the way up, run it for about 15 minutes to get to the carb and fuel lines. Have not had a problem starting in the spring yet. Knock on wood.
