I had always thought my Marinette was all aluminum. For the hull, that is probably true. Above the toestrip, there are fiberglass sections.

I was recently doing some touch up painting where some aligatoring was just starting on the face of the cabin. I sanded through the aligatored paint spot and found that area of the cabin roof was fiberglass. As I thought about it, it was logical. Wherever there are compound shapes or saddle shapes, it appears Marinette used pre-formed fiberglass inserts to create these surfaces. The fiberglass sections are bonded to the adjacent aluminum flat surfaces.

Just something I did not know before...

Do you have one of the Harbor Master Marinettes from the early to mid 90's? I think someone else with a 1994 model said only the hull was Aluminum.

I can say on the 1980's on back to the very beginning were all Aluminum. Lots of fairing compound and jigs were used to bend and form the traditional Marinette design.

There is a very small amount of fiberglass in many original Marinettes. Anyone guess where that fiberglass is located?? Whistle Hint: Its "in" the hull.

Mine is a 1988 41. It is also fiberglass inserted on the rear wall of the rear deck. I think it was an effort by Marinette to soften some of the aluminum rigid lines to better compete with Sea Ray and the European look.

Is the fiberglass in the hull the mufflers?

Mine is a 1990 (keel laid 10/89) 32' Sedan FB w/twin 318 chryslers, I'm the original owner. I've been ALL over the boat and the only fiberglass I've found is the engine mufflers (filling compound not withstanding). I understand that the 1991 (and maybe real late 1990) and up models had some-to-much fiberglass, in an effort to "cheapen them" due to the Gov't 10% luxury tax over $100k. This plan caused many "M"s to turn turtle since the FB was fiber and much heavier. After that the company bellied and sold off assets and molds.

Ya, the mufflers are the only glass I know of.

I cant picture where on the 41 they used glass. Do you mean the entire top of the cabin is glass? I wonder how they bonded the Aluminum to the glass?

In '65 the M's were all aluminum. The weather deck roof must be an add on or an update. Are you the original owner (46 years)?

I think it only the slanted front of the cabin roof on my 88 41 that is fiberglass (where there are compound angle bends). I know when I removed the grab rails on the cabin roof, the roof itself is aluminum. I have the same situation on the rear deck. I know the top flat surface is aluminum, but the compound angle rear window panel is fiberglass. I have not taken the headliner out of the boat, so I am not sure how the fiberglass is bonded to the aluminum, but I would guess that the fiberglass insert has an extended lip formed on it that slips under the aluminum skin and is epoxied in place.
