Remeber tubes.. well yes and Jeff invented Crystal radio sets!!

Your CAPAC readings are neg. volts. so a reading of 9.5 is actually - 9.5

"Chemical reactions inside the battery push electrons toward the negative side of the battery which is called the cathode. In the circuit outside of the battery, electrons flow from the negative part of the circuit (connected to the cathode) to the positive part of the circuit( attached to the anode).
This is not a confusion with "conventional current flow" which is proton flow, but a standard normal "electron current flow" ."

Ahh I do remember tubes and used them often..

Now Jeff...invented the crystal radio!Applause

I Beg your pardon Dave, Jeff, may have invented the crystal radio Whistle But don't forget he first invented the wheel Dancing

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know "why" I look this way.I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

Thanks, Jack. I have been wondering whether they changed theory on me while I wasn't looking! If my boat is neg in respect to the water it's in, I'm losing aluminum. Right?

..."Jeff, may have invented the crystal radio But don't forget he first invented the wheel.."

No, but I DID invent the "Rusty Water Reactor" that will revolutionize the fusion power industry!

The easist way to visualize how the anodes are supposed to work is this: They GENERATE a DC voltage that protects the hull; from 0.9 to 1.2 volts is the range we're looking for. If less than 0.9 volts ("9" on the CAPAC meter) you need more/ better/ cleaner or different (magnesium) anodes. If more than 1.2 volts you need to remove some anode(s) to prevent leaching magnesium out of the welds.

Simpler to think of that way, right?

Jeff...

Clear as mud...

... but then I boat in the Ohio River so I'm used to muddy... Whistle

Seriously, good explanation. Have always been aprehensive when I hit the Capac button, but now if it falls out of range, I've a course of action.

I really didn't realize that I had hijacked this thread until I just read over it again. I apologize and will try to do better in the future - but, since I already did, IS my hull turning to alkaselzer if it is negative with respect to the water its floating in??

This information has been helpfull to me. I just did a haul out and put new anodes on. I was thinking that if 3 ft of anodes on each side of the keel was good then 5 ft or 6 ft would be better. Now I understand. Who said you can't teach a old dog new tricks?
