If your windshield is just sunblasted you can sand and buff it out. The process is similar to restoring a sunblasted fiberglass hull or buffing out an paint job. I used 3M perfect-it 3000. The idea is to quickly work your way through several grits to 1200 or 1500 grit with a orbital or pad sander and then buff it out with the 3M. I used a orbital buffer but would be tempted to try a circular machine if I had to do it again. The grit you start with depends on the damage. I started with 400.

I have buffed out the Marinette windshield and the porthole plastic on my sailboat. My next project will be the foward deck hatch cover. I did look for replacement plastic for the Marinette windshield. My home center had tinted lexan and plexiglass but they were not thick enough and very expensive. There will be a lot of holes to be to be precisely drilled if you make replacement. If you don't have the original pieces you will need to make a good pattern. I used lexan on another project. I paid $12 for a tool to score it to break off a straight line. It didn't work. That stuff is hard. I had to cut it all out with a jig saw.

P.S I didn't have battery sanders so I put on great big thick Hazmat rubber elbow length gloves and wet sanded with AC tools plugged into a GFCI outlet and used very little water. I can't recommend power wet sanding to someone else. You may not be as careful and afraid of death as I am. You can hand wet sand andm get good results. You can also try dry sanding with power tools until the last couple of grits then hand wet sand. I hand wet sanded a 18 foot sail boat hull so it can be done.

A local glass company should do plexaglass also. If you have your old ones they can make a copy and drill the holes. They should be able to bevel the top edges. They should have clear and tinted. I have had it done on a other boat I had. Can't remember the cost.

Wayne,
Check with your local auto glass shop, they should be able to help.

Thanks for the help guys. I did what Fastfeff would have done if he had a flybridge. Found $50.00 of change with my metal detector at the bus stop & bought some lexan from a local supplyer ( cheaper than on line) & a special drill bit for lexan . Cut it with a jig saw. looks new again. Wayne

That'd be a BIG bug!

Note how I kept my fists and mind clenched, not making a fly bridge comment? That's restraint!

Getting cold in Tennessee also . Spent the night on the BigM Thursday night.Snowing, wind blowing 30k & in the 20s. That alum hull cools down fast. Haven't heard from our BigM friend in Alaska. Wonder how he is doing. Don't remember if he was in that area with that 18 ft of smow. Glad I'm below the Mason Dixon line. Maybe going to the boat show will help with the winter blues. Wayne

The irony of this is that here in the midwest, we've been spared the snow (so far) and have less than an inch on the ground. Hope I don't jinx it..... Jack
