Hi All!
I am getting ready to drop my 32 FB in the water and noticed that the props are pitted pretty badly. I had them repaired about 3 years ago but the repair only held until now. I am going to Call John for a couple of new ones. What is the best way to determine if I have a 1:1 drive or a 1.52:1 drive? Thanks for the input

It is my belief that all the 1:1 trannys drove 14" props, and all the 1.52:1 trannys drove 16" props. So the prop size should tell you.

John has a list of the factory prop sizes for each engine at http://www.marinette.com/propsize.htm

The tranny also has a data plate that should give ratio and rotation. At least mine do.

The only direct way I know is to put a piece of bright tape on the damper, front of the engine, and another piece on the transmission output. While in gear, jump the starter directly so the ignition and neutral lockout are defeated, and see if the taped spots are going around together.

pitted props are not good!! There is a reason for this, are the edges discolored?? If so could be electrical problem, need check. Just a word of caution, good luck. Sorrydog

Listen to the "Dog". There's a reason that is happening, and you need to correct it. I would first check the prop shaft to tranny for electrical continuity with a meter--there should be none! If there is any continuity, an isolating washer or "tube" (around the bolts) is missing or allowing metal to touch.

A good prop shop can "tune up" your props for far less than new ones. That includes removal of pits. Something to look into.

This is an excellent discussion. But it's in the wrong place. This part of the forum was set up for administration of the forum itself. Threads like this go into a maintenance area. Just grousing cause it's time to cut the grass.
