I need help. On the front deck of my 76 32ft driftaway the paint is flaking and in some spots the bare metal is showing. I would like to put the non skid type paint on so i do not lose my first mate or myself. Looking for suggestions. Thanks, mike on the ohio

First of all you have to sand all those bare spots down to bare metal and go through the etch/ barrier coat procedure. Then you can lay down a coat of sand paint (called "non-slip") followed by--snd I'm not kidding--a thorough wax job!

I know what you're thinking: Why put on anti-slip coating then wax it! That's nuts! Maybe so, but waxing doesn't effect the anti-slip action, and it makes it easier to clean up.

be sure to take a look at a product called Tuff-Coat their paint is a non-skid polyurethane with rubber as opposed to sand. It will work in a variety of applications and is great for aluminum. Can be put down with either spray brush or roller. It's expensive but works. You can go directly to their site and get all the information you need for purchase and install they do have a very special primer so be sure to specify that you are doing an aluminum job. In addition they will even custom blend colors for you if you have that kind of need I used white keeping it classic.

I have to paint the topsides of my project 32' and I am getting overwhelmed. I had some auto paint pros do my fly bridge and will send them the thin air scoop fittings on the sides. They don't have portable equipment to bring to the boat. I just got a new Fuji HVLP turbine system. All the hardware is off the roof. I need to paint it and install the flybridge and railings. On the main deck there is paint bubbling up around two or three of the rail footings on the main deck. I am seriously considering spraying around the sound ones. A lot of Marinette owners feel that the railing should be removed and all the screw holes filled with rivnuts and nylon washers. If I end up spraying sand on the dang deck anyway, why be so careful?

Yoop: One possible reason to remove rails is to get at source of corrosion that seems to creep out into widening areas. So if you get at the source area and prepare it properly, you will probably be able to delayl the reappearance of the problem.

Jeff's idea of putting washers under/over the screw holes is an excellent and easy way to keep water draining away. Good luck. Since it's a project boat and time not of great essence, you can relax and do one thing at a time. Ok, maybe two.

I have been trying to find a friend going through Cleveland as Shilling Enamel's rubberized non-skid is hard to beat at the price. To bad they can not ship it.

Look at Durabak as well. It's a Polyurthane base as well. I had heard that there was some truck liner stuff that would get as slick as ice if oil of any kind was spilled on it and you could not clean it off and get the non-skid back
