Posting photos here isn't easy but if you do it once successfully, the next time will be much easier. The most important thing to remember is that you should not try to post pictures that are the same size (in pixels) as you shot them, they are way too big for a site like this and they will stretch beyond screen size, viewers will have to scroll to see the whole picture, a big pain.
Some people, though, set their cameras for fairly low resolution (I don't understand why when they paid good money for "megapixels", except to squeeze more images onto their memory card). So, if that's you, you may already have squeezed down the image and it will display fine. 96 or 72 ppi will do.. or a screen size of approx 640 x 480 (exact number isn't critical). Photos to be printed and, perhaps, enlarged, need much greater resolution than required for computer screens and email. Oh, by the way, if you down-size a picture on your computer, use Save As so the original photos is not altered because if you do permanently downsize it by copying over the original, you will have a tough time making an 8 x 10 from it.
So here are the basis steps. Incidentally, please ask questions if I have left something unclear and I will revise accordingly.
You cannot copy and paste your pictures directly to this site from your camera or My Pictures folder. Sorry, but that is how this web site works. You have to post them first on a web site such as Photobucket (the one I use) or Google's Picassa. When you post them on a site such as those, the site assigns a web address to each one of them. That web address is what gets posted here when you compose your message and (somehow) when users look at the message they see your picture instead of the web address.
Those web sites will let you edit the photos; crop, improve brightness/contrast, and re-size. Crop to eliminate anything that doesn't add to your picture.
-You can post a picture here in a thread you begin by choosing "Post New Topic" or in a reply by clicking on "Add Reply".
In the message, you can enter some text to explain what users will see. When you want the picture to appear, click on the "Image" icon that is on the top line with formatting options (bold/italic/etc). It's the 6th box from the left. Here's what will appear in your message: (left square bracket)img] (right square bracket/img(square bracket)].
Incidentally..I would show the actual square brackets and img [] but if I did the web site would not display them properly so I have to spell out square bracket.
-Paste the web address of one photo between (square bracket)img] (square bracket/img(square bracket).
Do this for all the images you want to display. I put each image message on its own line with one extra space in between to make sure they stack neatly on top of each other. I suppose if you smaller images, you might fit two side by side. [img] tells the site that a picture begins here and the /img says picture ends here.
Post and you're done. Use sharp photos, with an even range of light and dark tones. A little contrast boost will make many photos even better. Use the ones that illustrate your point and where appropriate, give a wide view before the really tight shot to help orient the viewer. Well focused closeups are helpful when illustrating a technical or how-to point. Have fun and thanks for posting.
