Well my 26' "Overnighter" is coming along nicely. It's almost time to post a new set of picutres. Cabin deck, sidewalls, forward & after bulkheads are in place! V-berth door is hung. Put the primer and 1st coat on last weekend. Hope to get the 2nd coat on when it warms up again but I need to get the trasom water line re-painted. Thought there would be no problem matching it but after going down to the Marina I am in serious doubt of my ability to match the color. It's not that I'm color blind but the colors they show you on paper seem to be nowhere close to what the paint actually drys out to. My local supplier carries Pettit and Interlux so if you could share your expirence with getting the right blue please let me know.

I went to a big paint store and got a bunch of very dark blue paint samples. They don't have to carry boat paint. You are just looking for samples. Get the bigger painted chips, not a printed brochure. I took them to the boat buffed out area with fairly sound trim paint and made a match. If you have trouble here with colors bring some help. Then I took the chip to my marine paint supplier. You need to deal with mainline paint dealer that can supply a suitable paint and knows how to tint by eyeball. You can't expect much from an 18 year old working the paint counter at Home Depot.
For the main boat color I brought in a panel from my flybridge. The inside of the cabinet door might work. You can also lift the cowl piece and use the chip matching method on the protected paint underneath. On the back of the cowl piece you may find the name of the original Marinette color. Mine was "Ivory".
