West Marine and Fore and Aft Marine have SS rail tubing but it is rather thin (.049"). Their aluminum has .058" wall thickness. The aluminum posts (pipe) that are being replaced are 1/8" thick. Anyone know where to get polished SS that is 7/8" OD?

Polished ss tubing is a common surplus item, places like Flounder Pounder Marine carry odds and ends. But you can get rail tubing from Hamilton Marine in 0.065 wall thickness in up to 20' lengths. This stuff is plenty strong. The only source I know for 1/8 wall ss tubing is McMaster-Carr, but their stuff is pressure pipe and is not polished. I have some 1/8" wall tubing but I have no idea where it came from......

If you can find it from a surplus dealer, that is probably the best way to go. You can get seamless .875" x .120" wall in 316 at onlinemetals.com , but it ain't cheap - $36.76 per foot / cut to order. They had welded tubing on their site as well but not in the wall thickness you want - .875" x .065" wall in 316 for $12.82/ft.

There are a few mills that might quote you a price on seamless or welded - Carpenter Metals or Pylmouth Steel. They may have short drops that they typically can't sell to the distribution channels. For boat applications, I would stay away from 304 and use 316 or 316L.
