I have some 'fun' work ahead of me. Wanted to see if anyone has any tips or tricks of the trade where repairs on a Crown Head are concerned. Had a motor shaft seal start leaking last weekend and now it's time to fix it. Looks to be fairly straight forward, but I always seem to do things the hard way the first time.

Rebuild kits are available from Raritan.

If its original Crown I would upgrade to the Crown II. Did that 4 yrs ago, been working great since. Much better design, imo.

Did get it fixed, but had to tear into it twice. Go figure. Thought I had those impeller set screws tight, but.........they weren't quite tight enough.

Karl,
What do consider to be the best benefit from the upgrade to the Crown II? Looks like the big difference is the intake pump.

Yes the intake pump is like the Shurflo demand pumps. Overall the system is quieter and seems to flush more aggressively with less water.

I also got by mistake the full size bowl which was actually a welcome upgrade. My rear fits much better. Whistle The original bowl was like the size of a coffee can.

Plus the unit looks better. It has a nice cowling that wraps around and it does not have that silly little container in the front for the blue fluid. I just add a bottle of Thetford chemical after each pump out and its good to go.

Raritan's website also gives the specs and comparison info on both models.

I rebuilt our old Crown I a couple of times and that was enough. I couldn't get that thing to flush properly. Its used so much water, it flushed like a house toilet.
