I am getting closer in my complete paint job.. Now I am thinking ahead on reinstalling the railing.

What is the best material to isolate between the railing and the deck (if needed).

The threads have different opinions.

I thinking of a harder plastic or nylon washer???

To do it right I'd use 1/8" delrin sheet. Tef-Gel on the screws.

After four years, my goofy system is still working great; no corrosion spots, and the railings are still as tight as the day I put them on! I used Rivet Nuts (#8-32 thread size) and put a nylon washer ONLY below the railing posts. The idea is allow water to flow between the post and deck, preventing crevasse corrosion.

We just finished putting the railings back on after the deck paint job. Used 1/4" nylon spacers obtained from eBay and TefGel (you can see a little TefGel squeeze out in the photos). The rails are 'tight as a monkeys fist'.
