This is how we did it using pink RV anitfreeze with rust inhibitors. 1 - Push one end of 3/4" heater hose into strainer housing top inlet and the other end in bucket with water hose ( see pictures) 2 - Start engine and let warm up a bit 3 - Change oil and filter (Fram PH16, 1 qt of Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer, 1 gal Shell Rotella T 15W-40) and then restart to make sure oil pressure is OK 4 - Remove the brass water drain plugs from both sides (let drain) 5 - Remove thermostat housing and t'stat 6 - Pour pink AF until pink comes out plug holes 7 - Replace plugs and top off with AF (it took 1.75 gal) 8 - Replace t'stat housing and snug bolts (leave t'stat out) 9 - Put AF in bucket and run engine until pink comes out exaust (sucked up 3.25 gal) 10 - Remove pump and impeller We keep her in a insulated quonset hut that rarely gets below 20 degrees. Last year it never got below 25.

If that motor freeze cracks, America will be beneath a mile of ice! Meaning that your engine is well winterized. Good work.
I hear of people draining the block, then pouring Pink Stuff in and thinking they are okay. No so. Lots of water trapped here and there to cause $$$ problems. You did it perfectly.

My engines are FWC so I dont have to go through all that plus the previous owner added "T" fittings to the raw water lines right at the strainers. Alls I have to do is close the seacock and take the caps off the "T's" hook up my hose that is attached to my winterizing drum full of anti freeze and start each engine. Let run till pink comes out the exhaust and shut down. I USUALLY have either fogging oil or Marvels Mystery Oil ready so that while its doing that I can spray/pour it down the carb too.

whats all this talk about winterizing.you can do that after thanksgiving. if i drain my block and run until its full with pink will that be good enough ?i drilled a small bypass hole in my tstats when i installed them.

Tim, Hell does it ever get cold enough down in NC to even warrant winterizing the eng. Last time I was down that way a few years back in ( Dec.) as I recall it was about 75* 80* & Santa came down the chimney in red shorts Big  s Live On Keep your hooks wet & your Butts dry also make sure your whistle stays wet

norm ,yes it will .i don't know how the newer  's are but mine is not insulated well .some people at my marina use heaters but i don't trust the dock power that well.i try to have it done by the time it starts dipping below 30 at night the boat is only about 4 miles from the va line.at the south end of the state you may be able to get away with that. the fishing is suppose to be good for the next few months for big cats and stripers we are going to try some this year before we winterize.(if that four letter word that starts with "w"allows) tim

Thanks Diver Dennis for posting this info just in time, never heard of pink AF or taking out the pump. Good idea. Also heard of leaving a light bulb on in the engine compartment during winter keeps it from freezing? Sounds like it could be disaster if there is some kind of leak too. Huck

Leaving a light bulb on is a pretty good way to reduce humidity in the engine compartment, but not for winter protection. One short power failure in mid-January and you are cooked. Well, perhaps, frozen. Use AF.

I’ve heard of guy’s using dip stick heaters farther south when they get a couple day cold snap but as Joel suggested the pink AF is your safest bet. Norm, Big  s Live On Keep your hooks wet & your Butts dry also make sure your whistle stays wet

On another web site, where I dispense equally bad (but free!) advice, I counted the number of cracked blocks due to "Hey, it ain't gonna get that cold?" , marina incompertence, and other nonsense: 26! And that was in one year.

Doug, Hurricane lifting boat ½ mile inland ?  Frozen block?  Neither sounds like a good option but I think I’d opt for the latter  But than the Ins. agreed upon value is worth more than I can get for it in today’s boat market. We keep a 150W infrared lamp on during the off season to raise the ambient temp a few degrees and lower the humidity in the engine compartment. It won't be long before that 4 letter word with an 's' comes.....
