The Carter AFBs have an aluminum body that weeps gas after a few decades. This resembles flooding, but it can NOT be cured. The advent of "evil-nol" gas just makes this problem worse, so I'd toss the AFB. The Quadra Jet uses a pot metal body that's far better.
Assuming you have a twin engined boat (sorry; got lost), then you want identical everything. If not, the throttles will be all over the place and drive you nuts!
That restriction is, I believe, necessary with the dual pocket, raw water pump system AND a raw water cooled motor. I theorized that such a restriction had to be there, so I guess that's it.
