have to deside what carb to use .


i have an 84 set up with an angle plate and a quadtrajet.that i think is ok.but it won't match the other motor .
i also have a 70's set up with an afb and the angle bilt in the manifold "matchs the port engine".i have not ran the afb .but see them cheap on ebay all the time .but you don't know if there any good eather.

ps .jeff i know you will say a new e b.but my wallet is to light for that this year.

A GOOD Quadra Jet is hard to beat. Getting them rebuilt by a competant rebuilder would be my recommendation. Should they not be rebuildable, then an Edelbrock 1409 marine carb is your best choice. They now sell them with an adapter for that unique Quadra Jet configuration.

PS: Just don't buy a used Edelbrock that looks like this one. Note the lead slug mistakenly left in the idle passage (one of two locations). No wonder I couldn't get that sucker to run right!

jeff ,would you try the 72 carter afb that matches the other one .or the 84 rochester quad .i wonder about throttle responce on diffrent type carbs.

also found this reducer in the intake to water pump connector hose don't know if it came off the fresh water system of the raw system .going to use the fresh i guess ill put it in if no one says deffirent.

The Carter AFBs have an aluminum body that weeps gas after a few decades. This resembles flooding, but it can NOT be cured. The advent of "evil-nol" gas just makes this problem worse, so I'd toss the AFB. The Quadra Jet uses a pot metal body that's far better.

Assuming you have a twin engined boat (sorry; got lost), then you want identical everything. If not, the throttles will be all over the place and drive you nuts!

That restriction is, I believe, necessary with the dual pocket, raw water pump system AND a raw water cooled motor. I theorized that such a restriction had to be there, so I guess that's it.

Ah hah, hah! Edelbrock tech rep claim that's normal for their carbs, and that I shoved that piece of lead down from above when I drilled out the plug. So I still haven't found a reason for the horrendous off idle stumble that carb exhibits. Spring 09 project, I guess.
