It appears that the lift bridge is coming down. This might not be the skipper's fault.

It was, Doug. No one was killed, however, which is remarkable. Damage to the bridge was minimal, believe it or not!

i saw this on destroyed in seconds the bridge operator let the bridge down to soon no way for the boat to stop.

It was the bridge operators fault. Read the write-up from the canadian saftey board. The ship signaled the bridge and it it opened. As the ship approached the open bridge it began to lower. The bridge operator stated that he saw the ship clear the bridge and then started to lower it. The bridge operator was impaired.

It's hard to believe that the bridge operator would lower the bridge on a ship. But that's what he did. To add to the problem there was no coordinated effort to handle the situation and the local fire company got on board the ship and started opening fire doors !
