Ah yes, I remember that one was for sale several months ago. It has the 426 Chrysler wedge motors I think. Definitely a unique setup!

When I worked for the DNR in Illinois we began requiring titles on ALL watercraft I think it was around 1980. It was a mess! We had thousands of inspections and many tried to register manufactured watercraft as homemade! Took years to grandfather boats and a lot of work.

Now some state require titles on outboard motors (due to high theft). What a pain in the @$$

A little checking on the web and the Maryland DNR site shows no titles required for motors. Just boats. Your lucky day

So I've agreed to buy the 31 from keldridge.

He called me over the weekend and explained the story behind the boat and what all he knew about it. I have to say, it is a really neat boat with some cool history. I've come across only one other 31 fisherman, but not another with the twin 426 power. Supposedly those are totally original! If that's true then those are the longest-lived marine engines I've heard of and someone must have taken real care for them to last 50 years!

The boat is documented with the coast guard and, after a little research, I've learned that I can simply transfer the coast guard documentation to my name and that takes care of that. Whew... even out-of-state car titles can be a real pain in TX! The registration will require a visit to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, but they're easy to work with. Lastly, the trailer title & registration will require a visit to the county tax office. Not too bad.

Seems a little odd dealing with 3 entities to pay so many fees for only two items, but apparently I don't pay enough taxes already
